More of the Same in Luang Prabang

There’s a bit of a running theme here in Luang Prabang, embracing the chilled back lifestyle that rules the town.

We spent another day walking, seeing, eating, drinking and chilling out. We have some plans over the next couple of days before we head to Vientiane on Monday.

We did visit the bigger food market in town, this was the place I was supposed to try balut. I made the mistake (or not) of watching foreigners eat this special treat and decided there was no way in heck I was going to try it. I wussed out and I’m proud of it.

Caellum did try frog’s legs for the first time the other night. Just like the rest of the world, he found they tasted like chicken.

3 Nagas MGallery Boutique Hotel & Restaurant

We had two dinners last night, restaurant #1 wasn’t very good and everyone decided they needed more food. So we went back to what appears to be our favourite restaurant, 3 Nagas. It’s an interesting setup, the boutique hotel and restaurant are on both sides of the street, but there is only one kitchen and one bar. So all evening long, servers are crossing the road with food and beverages. I’m not sure that would be to code in Canada.

We’re off to ride the Mekong river today and visit some caves. We’ll be having lunch on the riverboat, Theresa is hoping there will be more than fish on the menu.

We’ll likely visit the night market a few more times for the street food and people watching. I don’t think we’ll be doing much shopping here, although there is a store with really nice ebony carvings and furniture. I have no idea if it’s overpriced, so I probably won’t be buying anything to ship home. We still have a few more plane rides in the near future, so we may save the shopping for Bali.

It’s always bring-your-kids-to-work-day at the market.

We just finished breakfast, so I think it’s time to get back to chilling out.
